NOTICE OF RACE


1 RULES
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the current edition of The Racing Rules of Sailing.

1.2 The prescriptions of the Canadian Yacht Association will apply.


2 ADVERTISING
Advertising will be Category C.


3 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
3.1 Each race of the series must be completed having only 2 persons aboard the vessel.

3.2 The series are open to boats that hold a current NSYA PHRF-NS certificate. Yachts will be divided into classes after registration. Boats in each class will have the choice to fly spinnaker each race and will be rated accordingly. Where a boats spinnaker rating falls within the rating band of another class, they will be scored within the class where they would fall under their non-spinnaker rating.

3.3 Eligible boats may enter by completing the entry form and submitting it to the RNSYS Coordinator of Racing no later than 1 hour and a quarter prior to the start of racing.

3.4 Skippers must be Members of the RNSYS to compete. Crews need not be Members, but skippers should encourage their crew to join.


4 ENTRY FEES
4.1 There is no entry fee for this event.


5 SCHEDULE
5.1 Dates of racing (Series’ I, II, III & IV):

Series Dates First Signal

Series I - June 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, July 5th, 12th 1830 hrs

Series II - July 19th, 26th, August 9th, 16th, 23rd 1830 hrs

Series III - August 30th, September 13th, 20th, 27th, October 3rd 1830 hrs

5.2 Up to six (6) races are scheduled for Series I, while up to five (5) races are scheduled for Series II & III.

5.3 The scheduled time of the warning signal for the evening is indicated in NOR 5.1.


6 MEASUREMENTS
Each boat shall verify on their entry form that the yacht data on file with NSYA is current and shall notify the Coordinator of Racing of any changes to their rating during a series.


7 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The sailing instructions will be available at Registration, online at www.rnsys.com or from the Ward Room ‘Sailing News’ board.


8 SCORING
8.1 One (1) race is required to be completed to constitute a series.

8.2 (a) When fewer than five (5) races have been completed a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.

(b) When from five (5) to six (6) races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.


9 COURSES
9.1 The NSYA Course Card shows the marks to be used for the courses.

9.2 Yachts shall not sail in the following prohibited areas. The navigational buoys shall be passed on the proper side, unless they are marks of the course:

Hens and Chickens HQ2

Purcell’s Cove HQ1 Ives Knoll North HT2

Point Pleasant H19 Ives Knoll West H22


10 PRIZES
Prizes are awarded to the top three finishers in each class for each race. Prizes will also be awarded to the overall series winner in each class at the Annual Awards Banquet and Prize Presentations.


11 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
11.1 Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

11.2 A waiver and release of liability will be required to be signed at registration as well as proof of insurance and liability coverage (see NOR 11.1).


12 INSURANCE
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $1,000,000 per event or the equivalent.
