There will be a Handicap course (Alpha), a One Design course (Bravo). Each course will have its own Race Committee including separate signal boats and starting areas. The courses to be sailed will appear in the sailing instructions.

2011 RNSYS Opening Regatta Weekend

1 RULES
1.1. The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined by the current edition of The Racing Rules of Sailing.
1.2. The prescriptions of the Canadian Yachting Association will apply.
2 ADVERTISING
Advertising will be restricted to Category C.
3 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
3.1 The regatta is open to all boats in the PHRF-NS Handicap, J/29, and J/24 classes. One-design classes with five (5) or more boats will be identified as a class.
3.2 Eligible boats may enter by completing the registration form and paying the required entry fee at specified registration times.
4 FEES
4.1 Entry fees are as follows:

5 SCHEDULE
5.1 Registration will take place on Friday, May 27th from 1700hrs to 2100hrs, and on Saturday, May 28th from 0800hrs to 1000hrs.
A competitor’s meeting will be held near the Ward Room at 1000hrs on Saturday, May 28th and at 1000hrs on Sunday, May 29th.
5.2 Number of races:

5.3 The scheduled time of the warning signal for Saturday, May 28th is 1100hrs for all classes. The scheduled time of the warning signal for Sunday, May 29th is 1100hrs for all classes.
6 HANDICAPS
Handicap yachts shall have a valid PHRF-NS rating listed on the NSYA yacht database. Boats not listed on this database will be given a provisional handicap at the time of registration. This provisional handicap cannot be contested during the course of the regatta.
7 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The sailing instructions will be available at registration after 1700hrs on Friday, May 27th.
8 COURSES
There will be a Handicap course (Alpha), a One Design course (Bravo). Each course will have its own Race Committee including separate signal boats and starting areas. The courses to be sailed will appear in the sailing instructions.
9 SCORING
9.1 Two (2) races are required to be completed to constitute a series, except in the Handicap classes where only one (1) race is required.
9.2 (a) When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.
(b) When 5 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.
12 PRIZES
Prizes will be awarded to the top three (3) overall finishers in each class daily.
13 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. A waiver and release of liability will be required to be signed at registration.
14 INSURANCE
Participating yachts shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum coverage of $1,000,000 per event or the equivalent.
